Fetterman Says Gaza Is 'Not A Genocide,’ Calls Greene ‘Crazy Pants’ For Saying So

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is rejecting the idea that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a “genocide” and called out Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) for saying so.

“I promise you, I don’t care what crazy pants thinks,” he told reporters when asked about Greene becoming the first congressional Republican to label the crisis a genocide, according to a video shared Wednesday by Scripps Media.

“And why is that news and her views on that right now?” he said. “It’s not a genocide, you know, that’s just not the case. And she’s entitled to her opinion, but I’m entitled to not really care what her views on that is.”

Greene on Monday spoke out against the war, posting online that it’s the “most truthful and easiest thing to say that Oct 7th in Israel was horrific and all hostages must be returned, but so is the genocide, humanitarian crisis, and starvation happening in Gaza.”

More than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 145,000 others injured since the start of the Israel-Hamas war nearly two years ago, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Tuesday.

These deaths include 63 malnutrition-related deaths just this month, including 24 children under the age of 5, according to the World Health Organization.

The Gaza health ministry has said the number is far higher overall, reporting 154 deaths from starvation and malnutrition, most in recent weeks. These deaths include at least 89 children.

Fetterman has long been an outspoken supporter of Israel in its war against Hamas. After the now-late Pope Francis called for a genocide investigation in Gaza late last year, Fetterman publicly stated: “I reject the accusation and investigation in the strongest terms.”

There has meanwhile been increasing frustration within the U.S. over the ongoing military attacks and starvation in Gaza.

A large group of Democratic senators on Wednesday voted against selling $700 million worth of American bombs and rifles to Israel, showing a growing divide. Those opposing one vote’s weapons sale included 12 new supporters who previously backed arms sales to Israel, according to Politico.

The resolution to bar the sales was ultimately rejected.
