MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell hit Donald Trump with some humbling facts during Wednesday’s edition of “The Last Word” and slammed the president for touting himself as a “warrior” for bombing Iran.
“Of course, Donald Trump feels like a warrior,” said O’Donnell. “Donald Trump, who evaded military service during the Vietnam War because he claimed his foot hurt. The same foot on which he spent the rest of his life playing endless miles of golf and never limping.”
Trump has never served in the military and reportedly avoided the Vietnam War draft with a diagnosis of bone spurs in his feet. The daughter of the doctor who provided the diagnosis later said it was a favor to his landlord at the time — Trump’s father, Fred Trump.
The president, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio lashed out at the media during Wednesday’s NATO summit over a leaked intelligence report suggesting the U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities weren’t as conclusive as the administration claimed.
Trump went on to praise himself at the podium for his supposed courage in the matter.
“I have, as you know, Marco Rubio with me and Pete Hegseth, secretary of state and secretary of war,” he said Wednesday. “Should we say — you know, it used to be called ‘secretary of war,’ maybe for a couple of weeks we’ll call it that, ’cause we feel like warriors.”
O’Donnell cited an NBC News report Wednesday stating the airstrikes hadn’t “obliterated” Iran’s apparent nuclear capabilities as Trump had claimed, but merely delayed them by only “three to six months,” and went on to tear into the president for his braggadocious rhetoric.

“Donald Trump, who only had to choose which ridiculous hat to wear when he went to the Situation Room to be a spectator during his war in Iran, now feels like a warrior,” said O’Donnell. “The war that Donald Trump experienced in that air-conditioned room where he didn’t even have to loosen his necktie, makes Donald Trump feel like a warrior.”
“The biggest crybaby in the history of American politics now feels like a warrior,” he added. “The man who spent every single day of his political and presidential life complaining that he is being treated unfairly now feels like a warrior. The man who told his insurrectionist mob that he would go to the Capitol with them on Jan. 6 now feels like a warrior.”
O’Donnell noted Trump had spent years calling NATO a “rip-off” and threatening not to defend member countries if they were attacked, only to laud the alliance Wednesday for their convictions after NATO leaders showered the president with praise this week. The MSNBC host called Trump “the slowest student in the history of the presidency.”
