Troubled NFL great Antonio Brown is wanted for attempted murder, The Washington Post reported Thursday after reviewing the arrest warrant.
Officials in Miami-Dade County are looking to arrest the former receiver in connection with a shooting at a celebrity boxing event in May. Brown was originally detained and released after the incident. He said at the time he was jumped by people wanting to steal his jewelry. Gunshots were fired during the melee and video later clarified Brown’s alleged involvement, the warrant asserted.
Brown is to be charged with attempted murder with a firearm and the warrant calls for Brown to post a $10,000 bond and stay under house arrest until a trial, the Post reported.
According to the warrant, the footage shows Brown punching someone, instigating a brawl, seemingly taking a gun from a security guard, and approaching the man he hit. Two gunshots are heard in cellphone video as Brown nears the victim, who ducks.
The victim told police last month that Brown shot him twice and they wrestled over the gun before Brown exited the scene, the warrant said.
The victim was treated at a hospital for injuries.
HuffPost reached out to law enforcement and also tried to contact Brown, but did not immediately hear back from any parties.
Brown hauled in 928 receptions for 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns from 2010 through the 2021 season. Brown caught a touchdown pass from Tom Brady, with whom he lived for a time, in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2021 Super Bowl victory. He spent most of his NFL years with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The mercurial star’s career was mired in chaos off the field.
He recently filed for bankruptcy, a few years after he played in his last NFL game at the end of the 2021 season. He bizarrely stripped off much of his uniform during the game between the Buccaneers and Jets and waved to fans at MetLife Stadium. He was cut from the team.
Brown has blamed chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a brain-trauma condition that is diagnosed at death, for his aggressive behavior.
