Fox News host Will Cain told former ESPN colleague Sage Steele that he was informed by management at the sports network that Black people despised him. (Watch the video below.)
Prior to joining Fox News in 2020, Cain worked at ESPN as a frequent panelist on “First Take” and also hosted a radio show.
On Steele’s podcast earlier this month, the two reminisced about the game-day atmosphere on the set during big events like the NBA Finals. They talked about being met with boos by Golden State Warriors fans.
“And they liked me,” Cain recalled. “They knew they needed it. They knew they did.”
Cain pivoted to his revelation.
“I’m gonna tell you a secret,” he began. “One time management told me this. They said, ‘We did a focus group. Black people hate you.’ And I said, ‘No, they don’t.’ And I said, ‘I meet ’em all the time. They love me.’ … And I remember this guy telling me, ‘Black people are polite. They’re not gonna tell you to your face.’ And I’m like, ‘OK.’”
Steele inquired whether the higher-up was David Roberts, the network’s executive vice president. “It was management,” Cain said, laughing.
“Ding ding ding ding,” Steele replied, as if she had guessed correctly.
