A disturbing new video angle emerged of Pittsburgh Pirates fan Kavan Markwood flipping over the grandstand rail and plunging 21 feet to the field at a recent game.
The footage was shot behind him in the right field stands. Markwood leaps out of his seat in excitement during an April 30 matchup against the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park. He then tumbles forward over the safety bar. Watch it here.
Markwood is recovering from severe skull, spine and rib injuries from the fall, which has been deemed accidental by police.
“I’m all right,” Markwood told TribLive on Wednesday. “I can’t really sleep. I have a lot of back pain.”
He added, “Broken everything.”
A previous video showed Markwood’s fall from a front perspective at a distance.
Markwood, 20, has already shown promising signs of recovery.
In an update on Monday, Markwood’s GoFundMe organizer, Jennifer Phillips, wrote: “Kav took his first steps today! It’s a slow slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s spirits.
“He still has a long way to go — he’s dealing with a broken neck, clavicle, and back so there are plenty of obstacles ahead. But he’s showing real strength, and we’re staying hopeful for a smooth recovery.”
